Opposition YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh has sought disqualification of state Assembly Speaker K. Sivaprasada Rao for allegedly admitting that he spent Rs.11.50 crore in the 2014 assembly elections.

YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu on Tuesday met state chief electoral officer Bhanwarlal and submitted him a memorandum addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner.

He said Rao, a member of assembly from Sattenapalle in Guntur district, stated during a programme on a Telugu television channel that he spent a whopping Rs.11.50 crore.

Rambabu, who had lost the election with a thin margin of 924 votes, said Rao resorted to corrupt practices as he spent much more than the permissible limit of Rs 28 lakh.

"Whereas I spent just Rs 30,000 for my first assembly election in 1983, I spent Rs 11.50 crore in 2014 assembly election," the memorandum quoted Rao as saying during the TV programme.

Rao had contested the election as the candidate of Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
