Yusen Logistics (India) Ltd's warehouse catering to Nissan Motor and Renault India's plant near here was totally destroyed in a fire that began Thursday afternoon, a fire official said.

"The warehouse of Yusen Logistics stocking and supplying varied components to Nissan Motor's plant (also Renault India) at Oragadam caught fire around 1.30 p.m. today (Thursday). The fire was very intense as it stocked varied automobile componenets like tyres, batteries and others. The structure has collapsed," G. Illango, divisional fire officer, told IANS over phone.

There were no human casualties, he said.

"The fire is under control but it will take some more time to completely extinquish it," Ilango added.

According to him, the warehouse had not obtained fire licence before beginning its operations and its fire protection equipments seems to have failed to perform when needed.

Illango said nine fire tenders belonging to his department and three from private companies had been pressed into operation.

"The warehouse is very huge and hence we are not in a position to get inside," Illango said.

While officials of Yusen Logistics confirmed the fire accident, they declined to comment further.

Yusen Logistics is the sole logistics service provider for Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd's plant at Oragadam that rolls out Nissan- and Renault-badged cars and utility vehicles.

The complete destruction of the warehouse and its stock will impact the production schedule of Nissan and Renault.

"We are currently assessing the damage and only after that we can tell the impact of the fire accident on our production schedule," a Nissan Motor India spokesperson told IANS.
