Zambia national football team skipper Christopher Katongo has hinted that he will retire after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 2012 AFCON winning captain said he was available to play for the national team until 2015 but would still remain active at club level, reports Xinhua.

"I still have energy to play for the national team and I think the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will be my last at national level. I will not be making any sense if I quit now because I am still needed and I can achieve more for the team. Let's wait for 2015 and see where we can take the team," he said.

The captain, who further said he would consider a coaching career after hanging up his boots, is currently training for local club Green Buffaloes following the expiry of his contract with Chinese side Henan Jianye.

Zambia reached the quarter-finals of the 2010 AFCON and lifted the trophy in 2012 but the performance in the 2013 tournament was awful and the team was eliminated in the first round.
