A 29-year-old Zambian man was arrested Saturday at the airport here and 10 kg methaqualone drug, a banned sedative substance estimated to be worth Rs.17 lakh in India, was seized, an official said.
Phiri Eliajah, who was to board a Dubai bound flight scheduled to take off around 4.30 a.m. from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, was arrested during frisking around 12.40 a.m., said a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official.
He was stopped for frisking on the basis of his suspicious activities.
"During screening of his baggage, 10 kg methaqualone drug in powder form was detected," CISF spokesperson, Hemendra Singh told IANS.
The customs Officials confirmed that the recovered drug was worth of Rs.17 lakh in Indian market, he said.
Eliajah revealed during questioning that he came to India July 2 on a tourist visa that was valid till Sep 29, he said.
