Much has been made of Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) with criminal records taking oath as ministers in Uttar Pradesh. But the Congress has not been found wanting on this front in Uttarakhand, despite its strong stance against ‘goondaism’ in Uttar Pradesh. On March 16, Congress MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh ‘Champion’, who was accused of firing on hotel staff in late 2011, took oath in Uttarakhand. The worthy had shot into limelight when he was accused of opening fire on staff members in a private hotel in Roorkee. Soon after, he was seen in the company of senior Rajput leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in New Delhi, in connection with the case against him.
