The Centre and the states may have failed to reach a consensus on the Goods and Services Tax (GST), but they stood united on one issue at Monday’s meeting of the Empowered Committee of state finance ministers: that the next meeting should be out of Delhi. And this is one thing on which the Centre has readily accepted their demand without any objections, a finance ministry official joked. Uttar Pradesh has proposed that the next meet be hosted in Lucknow. States also have the option of Goa — it has to been seen whether there will be a difference of opinion on this as well.
