The renaming of Gurgaon as Gurugram by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Haryana has given both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reason to criticise it. AAP leader Ashutosh posted this on Twitter: "BJP, by nature, is anti-Dalit, so it renames Gurgaon in honour of Guru Dronacharya (of the Mahabharata) but forgets Ekalavya." In an earlier tweet he had asked, "... So, does the party (BJP) justify the chopping off of Dalit adivasi Ekalavya's thumb?" The Congress' communication in-charge Randeep Surjewala dismissed the renaming as "an exercise in pure superficiality".
