Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi claims he has a realistic approach to dealing with the insurgents. So realistic that he can assess the outcome to a fine statistical degree. As the dreaded militant outfit, Ulfa, has split into two factions, Gogoi is looking forward to starting a peace dialogue with the militants.
Asked if the talks would amount to anything given the fact that the army wing of Ulfa under Paresh Barua is still opposed to talks, Gogoi replied, “Well, if I have a chance to pursue 40 per cent peace, shouldn’t I do that? Or do you want me to wait till 100 per cent peace is achieved?” Now how did he arrive at that 40 per cent figure?
