Appearing for Sahara, senior counsel Kapil Sibal had earlier submitted various pleas and applications for company chief Subrata Roy's parole and release, but had been turned down by the court, as these did not comply with the bail conditions spelt out by the court in 2014. On Friday, Roy was released for four weeks to attend the last rites of his mother Chhabi Roy, who died in Lucknow that day. After the order was pronounced, Sibal observed how, in the end, it was Roy's mother who brought him out of Tihar jail, where he had been lodged for two years. Chief Justice of India T S Thakur agreed, saying, "Mothers help even in death."
