Farooq Abdullah was playing golf with former governor SS Gill at Delhi Golf Club during the time his son Omar was negotiating with Congress leaders the nitty-gritty of the new coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. Although the buzz was that the distance had to do with junior Abdullah being chosen to head the coalition government, National Conference (NC) insiders deny this.
It seems Omar used to brief Abdullah each time he would meet a Congress leader and the senior Abdullah opted to stay away as he did not want to be seen negotiating with a team that has Saifuddin Soz on it. Farooq still has strong feelings against Soz, who had left the NC to join the Congress.
