The Modi sarkar has brought achche din for Hindi in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Prime Minister Narendra Modi's predecessor, Manmohan Singh, wasn't comfortable with Devanagari, the script in which Hindi is written. He would read his speeches in Urdu, having done his primary education in Gah village, now in Pakistan, at a time when the medium of instruction in schools in much of undivided Punjab was Urdu. There was an assistant from the Press Information Bureau, well versed in Urdu, to help Singh with his speeches. But as Modi is more comfortable in Hindi, the assistant has been repatriated. The PM's felicity with the language has also meant PMO officials are busy taking crash courses in Hindi.
