After Chawla, who?

With Chief Election Commissioner Navin Chawla’s term coming to an end next month, speculation has begun on who will become the third election commissioner. According to many, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has expressed the wish that it would be nice to have a woman election commissioner. While V S Rama Devi has already been on the commission, there aren't that many women around who can fit the bill. Shantha Sheela Nair, an officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, is one candidate. But, as EC is considered the best post-retirement slot, the competition to get to Nirvachan Sadan is intense.
