Airing political rivalries

When Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pramod Tiwari raised the issue of global warming and air, noise and water pollution in Uttar Pradesh in the Assembly last week, Environment Minister Nakul Dubey neatly turned the tables on him. Dubey said the situation in UP was not bad as it had been four years back (Mayawati assumed power in May 2007). He retorted that much of the air pollution was a result of emissions by vehicles running on fossil fuel and the short supply of CNG to UP. “If only Mr Tiwari could impress upon the Congress-led UPA to supply more CNG, the quality of air would certainly improve,” he quipped.
