Alone time?

The special one-day meeting of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) at Talkatora stadium last week was preceded by a performance by a musical troupe by way of entertainment before the long speeches began. But to Congressmen, even the music seemed to have a political message. Among the songs the troupe sang was Rabindranath Tagore’s famous Ekla Cholo Re, which loosely translates to “walk on your own”. Many Congressmen found the song appropriate since the party has shed its allies in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and is fighting the elections there on its own. It’s another matter that the song was performed because it was a favourite of Indira Gandhi.
