The appointment of the fourth deputy governor at the Reserve Bank of India has been delayed further. While a selection committee meeting was scheduled on January 28, it had to be postponed at the last minute as finance ministry officials were unavailable. With no fresh dates finalised, an interview of the three bankers left in the fray seems unlikely as the government wants to send a proposal to the appointments committee of the Cabinet at the earliest so that a decision is taken before the general elections are announced — in which case, the government could just decide on a name without an interview.
