A couple of months ago, the Mamata Banerjee-led government introduced a beauticians' course for inmates at Alipore Central jail in Kolkata. The course now has a high-profile taker: Debjani Mukherjee, associate of Sudipta Sen, the businessman at the centre of the Saradha chit fund scandal that saw thousands of small savers lose their money and embarrassed the ruling Trinamool Congress government. Mukherjee, who is in jail for her complicity in the scam, has applied for the beauticians' course in the correctional home. After all, in her one-year stint in the jail so far, Mukherjee was one of the most frequent customers to the beauty parlour inside the jail premises that is run by the inmates.
