Boy scout grows into a General

There's still some time for elections and Rahul Gandhi must use it for taking action instead of delivering empty speeches

Has the boy scout finally transformed himself into the General’s boots? Well only time will tell

One thing is for sure – at last Rahul Gandhi has decided to take up a leadership position and shun his image of the eternal student always listening and talking of his own dreams. The recently concluded AICC session has provided clarity that the Congress Party will have a new General to fight the election battle and, of course, if the party wins it means the General will take up the post of the Prime Minister (it implies so).

Going by the speech given by Rahul at the AICC session, there is little hope for the Congress. The speech was no different from the previous ones he has been giving over the last few years. All his speeches only deal with the future – they always try to paint a picture of an idealistic future and of course the manner in which the speeches are delivered it is obvious that there is no game plan to achieve what is being said. This has been one of the biggest problems of Rahul Gandhi. Till date he has not had a single achievement where one can boldly say that “Rahul walks the talk”. In fact the general impression is that he “Only talks but does not walk” or worst still he does not know how to walk. This is a serious charge against a leader who may end up being the Prime Minister of the country.

It is time Rahul gave up his cheap theatrics of eating with a Dalit family, picking up a bucket of water etc. and started delivering.  There is some time left for the general elections to be announced and he must utilize this time for taking action rather than delivering empty speeches, which conjure up, make believe images of a bright future.

There is immediate need in the Congress Party to understand the present mood of the nation because the Party must not forget that the present defines the future.

A senior colleague who read this blog before I could send it gave me an interesting insight into the mind of Rahul. According to him if Rahul actually tries to analyse the present situation, he will realize that the party has no future so his policy is to “ignore the present and plan for the future”.  Whether this is true or not, only time will tell.
