In his speech at the annual general meeting of sugar body ISMA, food minister Sharad Pawar said the Indian sugar industry was fond of making comparisons with Brazil (the world’s biggest producer) in every aspect. Nor did he expect a respite, he said, because the new ISMA president is Renuka Sugar Managing Director Narendra Murkumbi, who is also a member of the Brazilian association, having acquired two companies there. “I will have to hear about Brazil in every meeting with ISMA,” the minister joked.
