You’d think getting MPs to cycle to Parliament would be a good thing, especially if it inspired others to give up their cars and cycle to work. And you’d think the environment minister would be the biggest supporter of the move. No such luck. Jairam Ramesh is wildly opposed to the idea. When asked about it at a press conference, he said, “Security doesn’t allow cycling to Parliament.” And then, he added, “If we let them cycle, tomorrow they will ask for an allowance to buy cycles.”
