Capitalising on a cause?

While various political parties have been slamming the government on the Bhopal issue and regularly issuing press statements from New Delhi, CPI(M) and CPI have decided to launch an agitation at ground zero, near the abandoned Union Carbide site. CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat is going to Bhopal on July 2 to hold a rally and lead a human chain as a mark of protest against the central government’s perceived inaction against the culprits. CPI’s Atul Anjan will join Karat. In the last few years, CPI(M) and CPI have held regular political programmes in Madhya Pradesh, where they eye an electoral opportunity and a support base.
