Even as the government pushes for plastic and digital payments, several business outlets appear somewhat recalcitrant. A petrol pump, just a few metres away from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Lok Kalyan Marg (Race Course Road earlier), refused payments through credit and debit cards during the weekend, forcing customers to pay in cash. When reminded that the PM was spearheading the online and digital payment initiative, the staff at the pump dismissed it lightly, saying the card swipe machine was out of order.
