With Reliance Industries beginning to pump gas from its massive Krishna Godavri (KG) field, India’s energy economy undergoes substantial change. Over the next few years, when Reliance ramps up to its full capacity of 80 mmscmd (million metric standard cubic metres per day), the savings in the country’s hydrocarbon import bill could be around 20 per cent. This, in turn, would lead to a reduction of 0.5-0.6 per cent of GDP in the current account.
