Cold war at top

At the recent Army Day celebrations – held for the first time at the new Maneckshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment – the dynamics between the present Chief of Army Staff, Gen V K Singh, and the previous Chief, Gen Deepak Kapoor, were there for all to see. A vast hall where the VIPs were congregated was the arena of the exchanges – or lack thereof – between the two. If one was at one end of the hall, the other took good care to see he was at the other end. The present chief has said he favours a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the Adarsh scam -– where defence land was supposed to have been turned into residential land.The Adrash scam is supposed to have happened during the tenure of the previous chief.
