Business Standard New Delhi

Flush with ideas and enthusiasm (and money), the Congress has big organisational plans. Among them is a proposal to restart the party newspaper, The National Herald.

The Herald used to have two editions, one in New Delhi and the other in Lucknow. The newspaper was revived during PV Narasimha Rao’s time, but gradually fell into disrepair and withered away altogether. The last employee was given voluntary retirement eight months ago.

But now, the office is being rebuilt, the facilities refurbished and over the next couple of months, a new team will be put in place to restart it, possibly on Indira Gandhi’s birthday (November 19). The party reckons it needs a newspaper to put its viewpoint forward. The question is, who will edit the paper?
