Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s stand against demonetisation has led to a competition of sorts between the party unit chiefs in Delhi, the country’s political capital, and Mumbai, the nation’s financial hub.

While Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken has asked party workers to hold public meetings at the municipal ward level, his Mumbai Congress counterpart, Sanjay Nirupam, has asked party workers to collect signatures of residents against the note ban, outside local train stations.

Both Maken and Nirupam are considered close to Gandhi and are trying to shore up the party’s prospects in India’s two most important regions.
