 Even 10 years ago, the Dalai Lama was little more than a religious curiosity in the US. Today, he is an acknowledged feel-good guru and a mass-appeal icon backed by corporate big guns, marketers and publicity agencies.

 Last month, when the head of Tibetan Buddhists and their India-based government-in-exile paid his 15th visit to the US, people paid $ 400 to $ 3,000 a person to listen to his lectures.
