West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is often called ‘Didi’; the state is now coming up with new monikers for her. On Wednesday, IPS officer Bharati Ghosh called Banerjee Margaret Thatcher of Bengal. Last month some of the Durga Puja committees had put up hoardings with pictures of Mother Teresa and Banerjee in which they were hailed as Bengal’s “greatest daughters”. This apart, once rebel Trinamool Congress member of Parliament Kabir Suman had said during the annual Martyrs’ Day celebrations in July that people would “worship Banerjee as a deity 300 years later”.
