In the Sahara case against the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), counsel Rajeev Dhawan was trying to explain how the group was cash-strapped owing to various orders by the stock market regulator and the court. At one point he said, "Thank god, they did not ask [for money] from the lawyers." He was referring to Sahara's dues that run into thousands of crores. One of the judges jokingly asked Dhawan, "Are you suggesting you would have given them money?" Dhawan replied in the same tenor that his parents used to call him "Karna" [from the Mahabharata] for his habit of giving away things. "Whatever it is, I am not going to lend you any money," the judge retorted.
