After spending an entire fortnight trashing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on coal block allocations and raising questions about its jurisdiction, the United Progressive Alliance government appears to be changing its approach. In place of dire warnings that CAG was operating outside its constitutional boundaries, Finance Minister P Chidambaram good-humouredly reminded journalists of what present President and former Leader of the Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee used to say: “The business of CAG is to find fault”. He could not resist adding, though, “Although I may disagree with it… .”
