Here’s one scam the government can confidently disclaim. Email money frauds tend to be limited to well-known global conglomerates like Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Shell and so on. But recently, the finance ministry unexpectedly found itself at the centre of one of these. It involved calling on recipients of a $4,91,000 “prize” from the “Canadian Coco-Cola Company” to remit “facilitation money” of Rs 38,892. The scamsters were discovered to be using the names of the finance minister and a director in the department of expenditure on a finance ministry letterhead to strengthen their claim.
