The Cabinet meeting that discussed Home Minister P Chidambaram’s proposal to reissue the ordinance regarding the Enemy Property Bill found him isolated. The majority opposed it. But interestingly, when one of the ministers said his objection was against it being called “enemy property”, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee flared up. “So what do you call enemy property… it was after the 1965 war… would you call it ‘friendly property’?” The minister concerned did not press his objection further.
