Business Standard New Delhi
In the 20th century, the handover of buildings marked the passing of an era. But India is no longer in a bricks-and-mortar age, and today it's Twitter handles and websites that mark transitions - like pmo.nic.in changed over moments after Narendra Modi was sworn in as prime minister on May 26. Thus the Planning Commission's real end came on Monday, when it said goodbye to Twitter, paving the way for the NITI Aayog Twitter handle to take its place. The Commission's official handle said: "The Planning Commission has been replaced with #NITIAayog (National Institution for Transforming India). Keep watching this space for more. https://twitter.com/NITIAayog."

It added: "Planning Commission website has been archived and all related material can be accessed on the following url: http://planningcommissionarchive.nic.in/." So, in a way, the Planning Commission still exists, trapped forever on the internet at the moment of its demise.
