What is the best way to convince people that you have emerged as the market leader? State Bank of India Chairman O P Bhatt has found a new method. He cited a phone call from HDFC Bank Managing Director Aditya Puri to announce that the country's largest bank is now the leader in the auto loan segment.
Bhatt said he did not know till he received a call from Puri congratulating him on the feat. But Puri is not giving up just yet. He says that the State Bank group, which includes six associate banks, is the largest player in the auto loan segment, but HDFC Bank still commands a bigger share than SBI.
