A group of British submariners recently requested the Union shipping ministry to allow their submarine to dock at the Mormugao Port in Goa. The ministry faces a severe capacity crunch at the Goa port so it suggested New Mangalore Port instead. But the submariners were unwilling to comply. Having been underwater for a large part of the year, they wanted a vacation above the waterline in one of the world’s most popular holiday destinations. To avoid a diplomatic incident, the ministry obliged, finding a vessel in the sea a little away from the coast for the submarine to dock so that the submariners could enjoy a Goan holiday.
