Sam Pitroda, the prime minister’s advisor on public information infrastructure and innovations, briefed a select set of individuals on his plan to connect each village through an internet network and talked about its huge benefits. Since some people got the impression that he was keen on having government companies like BSNL build the network wherever possible, he was quizzed about it. After a while, Pitroda decided to bring the discussion to an end with a quip: “You’ve heard about the golden rule? The person with the gold makes the rules!”
