Japan and Canada explain how GST is a 'good' tax

The state finance ministers’ visit to Japan and Canada last month taught them many things about the Goods & Services Tax (GST). The broad message is clear — GST is a good tax and the only way to move forward. If they were not clear how and why GST worked in Japan, that was the result of a language barrier. “They tried to explain their GST model to us. At times, we were left wondering whether what we understood was right. But the crux was GST is a good tax,” said an official.
