Why did the Congress not look as disappointed even inside party offices, after hitting its lowest tally in the Bihar Assembly election? It seems Party President Sonia Gandhi had a fair idea of what to expect, though many other managers boasted of “easily” crossing the 20 seat-mark. While the election was on, Congress General Secretary B K Hariprasad – who also heads the screening committee for Congress in Bihar – was asked, “BK, what does it look like in Bihar?” Hariprasad told her not to worry, the party would get between 20 and 25 seats.Gandhi, of course, had her own calculations and inputs on the state of the party in Bihar and quipped, “If we can get even 10 seats, I will be happy.” The party won just four seats.
