On Friday, CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo member Brinda Karat had arrived at the party headquarters early in the morning. As the news of the woeful performance of the party poured in from West Bengal, the two leaders locked themselves in two different places and did not face the media waiting in front of their office. While Prakash didn’t leave his room on the second floor, Brinda stayed inside the library in the basement. The general secretary even had his lunch inside his room and not at the canteen on the ground floor. It was left to the articulate Sitaram Yechury to face the cameras and give “reactions”. After a few hours, central committee member Nilotpal Basu appeared before the media.
