Honest assessment

Kapil Sibal has heard many theories on why he was selected to fill the telecom minister’s chair after A Raja’s exit. But the latest and possibly most unique one has come from his fellow MP in the Lok Sabha, senior Communist Party of India leader Gurudas Dasgupta. Dasgupta recently congratulated Sibal and told him, “Do you know why you have been chosen for the telecom ministry? Not just because you are a fine legal brain. In that case, Veerappa Moily (Union law minister) would have succeeded Raja. But throughout your professional life as a lawyer, you have saved all sorts of criminals and made a lot of money. So, you will not use your office to earn more money. The telecom ministry is safe in your honest hands.”
