A top Bharatiya Janata Party Union minister from Uttar Pradesh wanted a Rajya Sabha seat for one of his lieutenants, who is a party spokesperson. The party leadership promised he would get it; the minister was reassured. But he was the last to know who the party nominees were. In fact, it was when the party nominee from UP called the minister to seek his blessings that he came to know his candidate had not been selected. The minister would have quit the government had his supporters not talked him out of it.
