Hunt for CVC begins

The hunt for a new chief vigilance commissioner (CVC) has begun and many unexpected names are doing the rounds. Among the top contenders are Devender Sikri, a 1975-batch IAS officer, Rajiv (who goes by his first name), a 1975-batch IPS officer, Parvez Dewan, who was tourism secretary (2012-14), and Pankaj Jain, former secretary, ministry of drinking water and sanitation. Also in the race are Vishwapati Trivedi, who retired as secretary, ministry of shipping, in November 2014, and Amarjeet Singh Lamba, a member of the Securities Appellate Tribunal. Trivedi and Lamba are 1977-batch IAS officers. The post of CVC has been vacant since September 2014.
