Corruption and missed deadlines for the Commonwealth Games may be worrying Delhi’s public, but it’s the timing that is irking one community in the city in particular: the Bengalis of Chittaranjan Park. That’s because the Games schedule between October 3 and 14 overlaps with the initial days of the 10-day Durga Puja festival, which starts on October 8, and the Delhi government is holding back approvals for the pandals and related festivities that are held in public places.
The matter has been considered critical enough for a delegation from various puja committees to meet Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to negotiate for permission to hold the pujas from at least October 14 onwards.
