When the finance ministry had first sought an exemption for banks from the ambit of the Competition Act, 2002 from the ministry of corporate affairs in September 2009, the proposal was opposed by then Corporate Affairs Secretary D K Mittal. Now that Mittal is the Financial Services Secretary, he is rooting for the exemption. As the saying goes, “one stands where one sits”.
