Congress President Sonia Gandhi had called a meeting to discuss the progress of central government programmes in non-Congress-ruled states. Most of the party managers present complained that state governments were hijacking the central schemes. Leaders from Bangalore said that while the city has received Rs 7,000 crore under various heads of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the signboards of the projects carry the JNNURM logo in very small size while highlighting the state government’s role. Gandhi gave strict instructions to her party managers to launch an awareness campaign so that people knew what the Centre was doing for them.
