Kirnahar, not California

For Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Kirnahar village is certainly more important than California during Durga puja. Mukherjee is leaving for a US trip on Tuesday night to attend the Fund-Bank meet. Initially, his schedule also included a visit to California to attend a Bengali community meeting. But when Mukherjee saw the tour programme, he realised he would be coming back to Kirnahar via Delhi only on October 14. Mukherjee traditionally performs Durga puja at his ancestral village every year, so he immediately dropped the California leg of his trip. Now, he’ll be back in India on October 11 and head to Kirnahar on October 12, two days before the puja.
