If you stop at a traffic signal in Kolkata, you will soon get to listen to Tagore songs to ease the wait. This is part of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “city beautification” plan and a pre-Puja gift to citizens. Banerjee, who claims to be a music aficionado, will be donating half the fund requirement of Rs 10 crore from her MPLAD fund and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation will pitch in with the rest. The city beautification project is based on the “London Model,” as proposed by Didi, but what exactly this means is a mystery.
