Ever wondered why court judgments are getting longer, sometimes running into thousands of pages? The Privy Council wrote one-page orders in bail applications. The Central Bureau of Investigation court wrote 144 pages in the Kanimozhi bail case. Supreme Court judges hearing her appeal on Monday had some mitigating reasons. English is not our language; judges are compelled to write “theses” in case they are accused of not answering all issues. And, remember, Privy Council judges had no stenos.
