Letters: A costly affair

This refers to the report "Flyer growth soars 20% on low fares" (June 2). I fail to understand since when have air passenger revenues dropped? I have never found a single vacant seat on any of my flights in the Kolkata-Delhi/Chennai/Mumbai sector. The flights are always full. With the government nowhere in sight, the airlines have had a field day. The government should consider a cap on air ticket prices. Moreover, flight tickets cannot be priced on the logic of diamond pricing.

This low fare talk is also a gimmick. Airline companies sell five to 10 seats at low fares and then jack up the prices. This can be vouched for by checking into any of the websites of airlines. The low fare advertisement balloon would burst if you try buying tickets at supposedly low fares. A reality check of the occupancy rates will also show that airlines keep crying just to justify their high ticket prices.
