This refers to the report "Billion Day sale cost Flipkart big; govt sits up" (October 9). If we had welcomed malls then, we embrace e-tailers now. After a buoyant ingress, malls now happily co -exist with the larger trading community. But today, e-commerce has come in where whiz-kids and start-ups have come together for "compressed sales", a billion clicks and sales worth $100 million online in 10 hours flat. But glitches are aplenty. Serious businesses build their reputations on faith and honesty. Bombarding media with unrealistic claims can mar consumer confidence. E-tailers will earn wisdom over time, but the customer has always been wiser. The government, meanwhile, must only ensure a fair game.
