Business Standard New Delhi

This refers to your editorial “Hunger and duty to feed” (October 14) in which you have observed that “there is ample medical evidence that shows that the most critical stage when adequate nutrition is essential is the first 1,000 days of life, between conception and the second birthday of the child”. Despite the problems “of high food-grain stocks” (if stock numbers are to be believed)” and “the administrative challenge of implementing a Right to Food law”, it is suggested that an exclusive fund be created for the purpose of feeding them. Contributions to the fund may be allowed a weighted tax-deduction at 125 per cent.
